Introduction

What are your favourite films?

Erin: I have a variety of favourite films including Back to the Future parts I and II (we won't mention part III), The Lego Movie, Big, Her and Napoleon Dynamite. I enjoy 'comfort viewing' films like Napoleon Dynamite that you can just sit back and enjoy without having to dig deep into your mind about future plot twists or characters to watch out for and also classics that just can't be beaten. However most the time I find myself watching things that will make me experience a multitude of feelings and get me really emotionally involved (basically having a good old cry). This leads me on to my favourite film which is 500 Days of Summer. A lot of people just think its a cutesy love story but it is a lot more than that. From the soundtrack to the visual effects it is just fab and I could watch it every day and it would still reduce me to tears.

Iona: Although this depends so much on what mood I'm in, there are some films that I will go to whatever I'm feeling and they almost always make me feel a lot more groovy. Trainspotting has to be at the top of my list because (in my opinion) it has everything. It manages to be cool with no effort (literally, as the budget was tiny for what is now a cult film), is emotional in all the right places and includes two of my favourite actors, Ewan McGregor and Johnny Lee Miller. In my opinion the dreamy soundtrack complements the film's twisted plot perfectly, and the bleak setting of grim 80's Edinburgh contrasts the characters and their creeping habits. It always leaves me in a very satisfied (if slightly odd) mood and that's exactly what I want from a film. I could write about how much I love this film for ages (and I probably will, just not right now) x
